How exam-based certification works
From question bank to verifiable credential: what your organization configures and what candidates experience.
1. The certification track
Start by designing the track: the levels of your certification, in order. For example, Fundamentals → Professional → Specialist. Each level can require the previous certification: professionals can only take the level 2 exam after earning level 1, with a valid credential. The track has a public page with its steps, and candidates can see their level.
Standalone programs outside a track are also possible.
2. The program for each level
Name, what the level certifies, field, skills assessed, prerequisites and validity in months. The program starts as a draft and only becomes available when you publish it.
3. The question bank
Multiple-choice questions, each with the skill assessed, weight and optional explanation. Add them in the dashboard or import a spreadsheet:

Questions can be deactivated at any time, excluding them from new exams without losing history.
4. Exam rules
- Time limit and minimum score (in %)
- How many questions each exam randomly selects from the bank (the bank can be larger than the exam)
- Shuffle questions and answers
- Attempts allowed and interval between them
- Choose whether to show the score to the candidate and on the public credential
5. Who can take the exam
- By invitation: a link you send to members or a class.
- By voucher: single-use codes in batches (for example, for a company certifying its team), with expiration and export.
- Open: anyone with an account, through the certification catalog.
6. The candidate's exam experience
- The timer runs on the server: closing the tab doesn't stop it, and the exam is submitted automatically when time runs out.
- Automatic answer saving, question navigation and review flags.
- Correct answers are never sent to the browser; grading happens upon submission.
- The dashboard records how many times the candidate left the tab during the exam.
7. Results, credential and next level
Upon submission, candidates see their results and performance by skill. If they pass, the credential is issued immediately, in your organization's name: email, PDF, public verification page, LinkedIn button and expiration date. Passing unlocks the next level in the track. Candidates who don't pass see when they can try again.
8. Dashboard and reports
Enrollments, attempts, successful candidates, average score and pass rate per program; export attempts and vouchers to spreadsheets. Organizations can revoke credentials, and the public page shows the revocation.
