Frequently asked questions
What is SmartCerts?
A platform to create, issue, deliver and verify digital certificates and credentials. Set up a template, add recipients and each person receives their credential link by email, with a downloadable PDF and public verification page. We have issued certificates since 2017.
What's the difference between a certificate and a credential?
The certificate is the document a person downloads and shares. The credential is the underlying record: who issued it, to whom, for what, when, and whether it is still valid. Every SmartCerts certificate is a credential with its own verification address.
Can I issue certificates in bulk?
Yes. Paste a list or upload a CSV (name, email and optional title and extra information) to issue for everyone at once. Use the API for larger volumes or automation. Learn more.
How can someone verify a certificate?
Use the credential link or enter the code at Verify certificate. The page shows issuer, recipient, achievement, date and status: valid, expired or revoked.
Can I add it to LinkedIn?
Yes. The credential page has an "Add to LinkedIn" button that fills in Licenses & certifications with the name, issuer, date and verification link.
Does SmartCerts use blockchain?
No. Verification uses the credential's public page, maintained by SmartCerts with data registered by the issuer. No wallet or anything beyond the link is needed.
